                                        (e) Fowls.

33.    Spirochaetosis.—An outbreak occurred among the Govern-
ment Stock maintained at Mirpurkhas, 30 cases and 25 deaths
being reported. Preventive treatment with Somaine was successful.

34.    Ranikhet disease.—Three deaths were reported from
the Government Auxiliary Farm, Dadu.

                          (iv) Preventive Inoculations.

35.    The Goat Virus Producing Station, as in previous years,
supplied the Rinderpest Goat Tissue Virus required for immunising
live-stock against this disease. 909 ampoules were prepared
during the year. The activity of the virus was ensured by obtain-
ing fresh goat blood virus from the Imperial Veterinary Research
Institute, Mukteswar at regular intervals in order to prepare
fresh Tissue Virus. The expenditure of the Goat Virus Producing
Station in 1940-41 was Rs. 6,341 as compared with Rs. 5,817 in
the last year.

36.     Table No. II. Rinderpest.—In 34 outbreaks, 4,894
bovines were vaccinated with Goat Tissue Virus as against 5,090
in the preceding year. The mortality in these 34 outbreaks was
277 un-inoculated and 2 inoculated bovines.

37.    Haemorrhagic Septicaemia.—Serum Alone inoculation
was carried out in 13 outbreaks in the course of which 108 un-
inoculated animals died, 659 bovines were inoculated of which
3 died of the disease.

38.    Contagious Pleuro Pneumonia.—The Veterinary Investi-
gation Officer has now standardised the method of vaccinating
healthy animals against this disease. Lung Tissue derived from
a diseased goat is formalised mixed with glycerine and injected
subcutaneously. This inoculation was carried out in 7 outbreaks
when 659 goats were protected. 108 un-inoculated and 3 inocu-
lated goats died in the course of these outbreaks

39.    Rabies.—45 dogs were given anti-rabic treatment at
Karachi and Hyderabad towns.

                                  (v) Other diseases.

40.     Table IV.—Veterinary Assistant Surgeons and Field
Compounders on tour visited 2,334 villages treated 69,145 animals
for contagious and parasitic diseases and 5,790 for non-contagious
diseases and castrated 1,684 animals as compared with 3,328
