6.     Financial.—The total expenditure of the Department was
Rs. 1,71,274 as compared with Rs. 1,39,294 in the previous year. The
increase is due to the appointment of an officiating Director for the 6
months during the period of leave of Mr. J. H.G. Jerrom and to expan-
sion of the Department.

7.     Investigation of Disease.—Mr. H. S. Bawa, the Veterinary
Investigation Officer, has done good work in the investigation of several
diseases. This has been of great help to the Department.

8.     General.—The work done by the Department shows an appre-
ciable increase, which would have been greater had the requisite num-
ber of Veterinary Assistant Surgeons been available.

9.     Government have sanctioned the appointment of 4 Non-Sindhi
Veterinery Assistant Surgeons and have also increased the number of
Sindh Scholars at the Bombay Veterinary College. It is hoped that
this will ensure an adequate supply of Veterinary Assistant Surgeons
in the future. The scheme of supplementing the work of Veterinary
Assistant Surgeons by Veterinary Field Compounders is definitely pro-
mising.

                                                                  J. H. G. JERROM,
                                                  Director of Veterinary Services, Sind.
