cases treated was 1,588 against 1,317 in the previous year. Medicines and
advice were given to the owners of 237 animals not brought to the dispensary.
Ajmer Veterinary Hospital.—Veterinary Assistant Abdul Haq held
charge of the hospital throughout the year. The number of animals treated at
the Ajmer Veterinary Hospital was 1,109 (95 in-patients and 1,014 out-patients)
against a total of 1,011 (87 in-patients and 924 out-patients) treated last year.
Of the 1,109 cases treated during the year under report 323 were equines, 147
bovines and 639 other animals. Six equines, 1 bovine and 5 other animals
were castrated at the hospital as against 3 animals castrated last year.

The Veterinary Assistant was not assisted by the itinerating Veterinary
Assistant during the year. He visited 57 villages and treated 21 cases for
contagious and 92 for non-contagious diseases (vide Table IV) as against 81
villages visited and 74 cases for contagious and 474 for non-contagious diseases
treated in 1919-20.

Six hundred and eighty seven horses were shod at the hospital shoeing
forge against 736 last year. The amount realised on account of shoeing charges
was Rs. 1,047-5-0 as compared with Rs. 974-7-6 in the previous year.

The amount realised in fees for the treatment of animals at the Ajmer
Dispensary was Rs. 806-7-0 as compared with Rs. 664-7-0 in the previous
year.

Beawar Veterinary Hospital.—Veterinary Assistant Fakha-ud-din remain-
ed in charge throughout the year.

Four hundred and seventy nine cases (29 in-patients and 450 out-patients-
were treated at the hospital during the year, as against 310 cases (23 in)
patients and 287 out-patients) treated last year. Of the 479 cases treated this
year 108 were equines, 162 bovines and 209 other animals.

When on tour the Veterinary Assistant visited 59 villages and treated 21
cases for contagious and 76 for non-contagious diseases, as against 11 villages
visited and 5 cases treated for contagious diseases last year.

                                  III.Breeding Operations.

No breeding operations were carried out in the province by the Civil
Veterinary Department.

                                            Fairs and Shows.

The Pushkar horse show and cattle fair were not held during the year
owing to the prevalence of epidemic disease among horses and cattle in Ajmer-
Merwara district and in the adjoining States in Rajputana.

                            IV.Subordinate Establishment.

Table VII.— There remained 2 Veterinary Assistants throughout the year.
Their work has been shown under the head "Veterinary Hospitals".

                          V.—Expenditure of the Department.

Table XIV-a.—The expenditure incurred from Local Funds during the
year was Rs. 4,847 as against Rs. 6,054 in the previous year.

                                      VI.General Remarks.

The Veterinary charge of Sind was separated from that of Baluchistan
and Rajputana at the end of the year and the proposal to separate Baluchistan
from Rajputana is still under consideration.
