In February Senor De Miranda from Brazil visited the farm with the
object of purchasing cattle. He appeared to be much struck with the farm
cows and was anxious to buy several hundred. Eventually the sale to him of
100 cows at Rs. 300 each was sanctioned. Up to the end of the year owing to
shipping difficulties the cows sold to him had not been despatched. One cow
was sold privately for Rs. 400, a record price for this farm for a cow sold in
India. The cow was 9 years old.

Heifers—Suffered from rinderpest, black-quarter and hæmorrhagic
septicæmia.

During the year 95 were transferred to cows.

Another pair of farm bullocks has recently been sold privately for
Rs. 500 the pair.

Mules.—Seventeen Ordnance, 7 equipment were issued to the Army
Remount Department. All the mules issued were farm bred. Ten of the
Ordnance mules were issued by the purchasing officer to Kashmir Imperial
Service Artillery.

The inspecting officer wrote to the effect that he was very pleased with
them.

Two transport mules were sold to the Agricultural Adviser to the Gov-
ernment of India for Rs. 800.

Pony mares.—Contagious abortion was a cause of great loss : 40 full
time foals were born. The numbers of mare at the end of the year was 76.

Arabs.—The experimental pure Arab breeding scheme received the
sanction of Government during the year. One Arab mare was purchased during
the year from the Army Remount Department stud at Ahmadnagar, the
number of mares at the end of the year being 4. One of the mares received
in January 1917 gave birth to a filly foal in February. The foal up to date
has done well and is promising.

Two of the other 3 mares were known to be in foal at the end of the
year.

Donkey stallions.—There were no changes in these animals.

Donkey mares.—61 full time foals were born.

Donkey stock continue to improve, but in company with mule and pony
stock suffered much from the abnormal wet conditions and consequent swarms
of flies. These animals were up to their knees all day in good grazing from
