is debitable to that department, and indents will be endorsed accordingly.

          SECTION 3.—THE INDIAN ARMY VETERINARY CORPS.

22. The I. A. V. C., India.—The I. A. V. C. India is organized into sections
and provides the veterinary personnel required for veterinary hospitals and for
attachment to units and services of the army.

The corps comprises veterinary assistant surgeons (Indian officers and
warrant officers) N. C. Os. privates and class I followers.

The establishment of the corps is laid down in Peace Establishments,
India.

23.  Sections I. A. V. C.—(i) Sections I. A. V. C. are located as requisite.
The strength of each section varies in accordance with the duties which it is
called upon to perform.

(ii) The I. A. V. C. personnel required for duty in veterinary hospitals,
and for attachment to units and other services, is furnished by the sections
of the I, A. V. C.

(iii) The O. C. the veterinary hospital in a station at which the H. Q. of
a section I. A. V C. is located, will be the O. C. Section.

When the D. A. D. V. S. of the district combines his other duties with those
of O. C. veterinary hospital at H. Q. station of the district, he will be O. C.
section I. A. V. C. when the H. Q. of the section is located in that station.

24.  Veterinary Assistant Surgeons.—(i) Veterinary assistant surgeons
are divided in the following grades :—

(1) Indian officers including

risaldar majors.

{risaldars.

jemadars.

(2) Warrant officers.

(ii) A veterinary assistant surgeon is graded on first appointment as a
warrant officer. Such appointments will be made by the O, i-c I. A. V. C.
Records under the orders of the D. V. S. The qualifications required from
candidates desirous of appointment as veterinary assistant surgeons are noti-
fied by A. H. Q. from time to time.

If recommended a warrant officer may be promoted to the rank of jemadar
on the completion of 5 years' service provided he has passed the prescribed
examination in accordance with the syllabus given in Appx. VI.

Examinations will be held under arrangements made by the D. V. S. A
candidate who fails in more than one subject, or does not display a satisfac-
tory knowledge in any one subject, may be debarred by the D. V. S. from
sitting for the next examination.

Promotion to risaldar will be by selection from jemadars who have qualified
at a two months' course at an army veterinary school.

Promotion to risaldar major will be by selection.

(iii) Veterinary assistant surgeons are posted for duty to districts,
independent brigades, and with the A. R. D., by the O. i-c I. A. V. C.
Records.

Veterinary assistant surgeons appointed to districts and independent
brigades, are allotted duties under the orders of the district or independent
brigade commander, except in the case of officers selected for the higher rates
of charge pay and for the charge of veterinary hospitals, class II, for whom
posting orders are issued by the O. i-c I. A. V. C. Records.
