The O. C. a veterinary hospital in which mobilization veterinary equip-
ment is stored is responsible that such equipment is maintained complete
and in serviceable condition, and for the periodical turnover of articles of a
perishable nature.

5. Executive Veterinary Officers and Veterinary Assistant Surgeons attach-
ed to the A. R. D.—
(i) Executive V. Os. and veterinary assistant surgeons
detailed for duty in remount depôts are under the professional supervision of
the D. A. D. V. S. district in which the depôt is located for purposes of adminis-
tration and professional supervision and will render the reports and returns
prescribed in Appx. II.

(ii) V. Os. and other veterinary personnel specially attached to the A. R. D.
for employment in connection with breeding operations, will be under the
control of that department and will not come under the administration or
supervision of A. V. Os.

6.  Veterinary hospitals.—(i) The distribution and location of veteri-
nary hospitals to meet the requirements of the army are decided by the
Q. M. G., subject to the sanction of the G. of I.

(ii) Veterinary hospitals comprise :—
      (a) Veterinary hospitals, class I, including those of remount depots.
      (b) Veterinary hospitals, class II.
      (c)  Branch veterinary hospitals, including those of remount depots.
      (d)  Sick lines for camel transport companies.
      (e)  Sick lines in stations at which a veterinary hospital is not located.

(iii) Instructions regarding the assistance to be rendered by personnel
of units in the performance of veterinary duties in hospitals and the respon-
sibility for the charge of hospitals in the absence of veterinary personnel
are contained in A. R., I., Vol. II.

(iv) The functions of veterinary hospitals comprise the reception and
treatment of military animals including the authorized chargers of officers.

7.  Army Veterinary Schools.—Army veterinary schools are established
and maintained as required in accordance with the orders of the G. of I.

Their functions include:—

      (a)  Technical training of I. A. V. C. personnel.
      (b)  Training of personnel of units of other services and arms in veteri-
                  nary first aid and animal hygiene.

Instructions regarding the administration of these schools, and the syl-
labus of instruction, are contained in the pamphlet entitled "Courses of
Instruction, India."

8.  I. A. V. C. Record Office.—The I. A. V. C. Record office deals with
the records of all personnel of the I. A. V. C. I. The duties of the O. i-c A. V. C.
Records are defined in the Standing Orders for the Army Veterinary Services
in India. The I. A. V. C. Record office is administered directly by A. H. Q.

9.  I. A. V. C. Depôt.—The. I. A. V. C. Depôt is administered directly by
A. H. Q. and carries out the initial training of recruits for the I. A. V. C.
and the discharge or transfer to the reserve of combatant personnel of the
I. A. V. C.

      SECTION 2.—GENERAL ADMINISTRATIVE INSTRUCTIONS.

10.  Army in India Reserve of Officers.—The rules governing the
appointment of officers to the veterinary section of the Army in India Reserve
of Officers are contained in A. R., I., Vol. II.
