sible for the hospital stores. He corresponds direct with Os. C. corps on
subjects concerning the health of animals.

12. Veterinary Officers will be appointed to the charge of S. V . Hs.
British mounted units will be placed in the professional charge of
Veterinary Officers in the station in which they are quartered. They
will, in communication with Os. C. corps, inspect, at least once
weekly, all animals under their charge. They will carefully look into
matters connected with the health and efficiency of the animals and will
see that the principles of shoeing are observed. They will satisfy
themselves that the veterinary wallets are fit for immediate use.

13. Arrival and departure reports of animals will be sent by the
O. C. the corps to the officer in charge S. V. H.

Treatment

stallions.

14. Veterinary officers will, if their services can be spared, treat
without extra remuneration, government stallions under the army re-
mount department located on the line of railway and animals under the
civil veterinary department when called on to do so.

Pocket
cases.

15. Every Veterinary Officer will provide, and keep up at his own
expense, a pocket-case of instruments of the sealed pattern.

Mobilization
Veterinary
equipment
to be
kept ready
for use.

16. The Officer in charge of a S. V. H. is responsible that the
mobilization veterinary equipment kept in the hospital in order
to admit of the turn-over of perishable articles, is at all times complete,
serviceable and ready for use. Veterinary universal chests will not be
used in peace time, except on manœuvres, route marches, reconnaisances,
etc., at the direction and under the orders of the S. V. O. Field
Veterinary Hospitals will only be used with the sanction of the Q. M. G.,
India. On the conclusion of manœuvres, etc., they will be returned to the
hospital that supplied them and completed at once.

17. A report will be made to the Director-General, A. V. S.,
through the proper channel, by a Veterinary Officer who receives a
medal, or decoration, or a diploma of F. R. C. V. S., or who is honour-
ably mentioned.

18. The O. C. the station will be informed of any report or sugges-
tion made to the S. V. O. by the Veterinary Officer in charge of a unit
referring to the health of the horses, sanitary condition of the locality in
which they are placed, or departmental discipline. Copies of similar
reports by the O. C. a unit to the O. C. the station will be furnished to
the S. V. O.

19. When a Veterinary Officer is placed on the sick list, the O. C.
the station, and, when he is taken off, the officer himself will report the
fact at once to the S. V. O. The illness, its probable duration, and ar-
rangement made for the performance of duties will be stated.

20. A S Veterinary Officer will report his arrival in, and departure
from, India, whether on leave or duty, to the Q. M. G., India, direct.
The S. V. O. will report to the Q. M. G., India, the arrival of a
Veterinary Officer in, and his departure from, a Dn.

21. On first arrival in India a Veterinary Officer will furnish the
Q. M. G., India, with a record of service on A. F. B. 199.

Transfer
certificate.

22. A Veterinary Officer on handing over charge of a hospital will
send the transfer certificate, I. A. F. Z. 2081, to the S. V. O.

Record of
leave.

23. The S. V. O., or the Director-General, Army Remount Depart-
ment, as the case may be, will keep a record of the leave taken by an
Executive Veterinary Officer during his term of service in India. If the
Officer is permanently transferred, the record will be sent to the Officer
responsible for keeping it.

Native
language.

24. Officers appointed to the Army Remount Department who have
not previously passed L. S. in Hindustani are required to do so within
12 months from the date of joining.

Muktesar
Laboratory.

25. Facilities are offered at the Muktesar Laboratory to Veterinary
Officers who have been through a Post-graduate in bacteriology to carry
