| Description | This drawing shows the plan of Biggar Collegiate Church, which is located in Lanarkshire. A note at the top of the page, immediately after the title, states that the plan was 'communicated by the Rev W. Watson February 7. 1790'. In this note, Hutton would have been referring to William Watson. In this plan, there are no dimensions and no scale to indicate size. Malcolm, Lord Fleming, the Lord High Chancellor of Scotland, founded and endowed Biggar Collegiate Church in 1545. Although work on the building started in 1545, however, it is likely that it replaced an earlier building. He dedicated the Church to the Holy Trinity, the Blessed Virgin Mary, St Nicholas the patron of Biggar, and St Ninian. As Malcolm, Lord Fleming, died during its early construction, his son carried on the building work, until the Reformation interrupted the work. |
