| Description | This engraving is by E. Mitchell from a drawing by W. Paterson. It is one of two such engravings in the Hutton Collection. The font is highly decorative and includes stone carvings of coats of arms held in place by angels. There is no date attached. In this instance, the church of Inverkeithing is probably St Peter's Kirk, which dates from the early-twelfth century. The armorial font, seen here, and the church tower are all that remain of the original pre-Reformation parish church. Prior to this, the site was purportedly the location of a church founded in the fifth century by a follower of St Ninian. |
