| Description | South-east view of Cambuskenneth Abbey, Stirlingshire. Other images of the abbey in the Hutton Collection show features of the buildings, as well as long distance prespectives. This is a popular view of the abbey and has been captured down the ages as an embodiment of Scotland’s romantic past. The most famous depiction from this angle, and remarkably similar in layout, is Alexander Kay’s watercolour south view of the abbey, looking towards Stirling, made in about 1830. There is a popular engraving of the abbey also included in the Hutton Collection, which admirably conveys the abbey in context and surrounded by life - a pleasant daydream for many researchers. |
