| Description | This is a drawing of a monument at Ardchattan Priory, Argyllshire. It shows three pointed archways within a larger round archway set within a stone wall. A large stone slab covers the ground underneath the main arch. The artist has included a note regarding its location and history. Located in a secluded spot on the banks of Loch Etive, near Oban, Argyllshire, Duncan MacDougall founded Ardchattan in the mid-thirteenth century. Dedicated to the Virgin Mary and John the Baptist, it was one of only three houses in Scotland belonging to the Valliscaulian Order, the other two being Beauly and Pluscarden. |
