vertuously, heth cast a fair copy for her to write after. Finally, sir, he is your
neer nighbour, so that you may have accesse to the more easy, frequent, and
comfortable fellouship of your sister, and to be usefull to her in all exigents
and occurents, and he may therby have accesse in what he can to be usefull to
your family ; and both of you, by your mutuall christian converse, may be edi-
fieing one to an other, and streinthen one another's hands by communicating
counsells, valouable considerations, especiaUy in a sad time, which is yet like
to be sader. I will not dar to trouble your honour further, but leave the whole
bussinesse to your oun judicious and grave consideration ; and if the Lord shall
please to commaund you so, I wold hope it should be no greif of heart to you
afterward : only adding that your intertaining the young gentleman's proposal!
will be very refreshing and satisfying to, generous sir,

derstoun's friend. I heartily wish she may be not only a blessing to, but also
yet a fruitfull builder of your house, after a whiles uithholding the fruit of the
wombe for [his own] wise ends.

338. Worthie Sir, I doe look upon it rather altogether as ane exuberance of your
goodnes and favour to me more then what I any wayes can pretend to, in the
value yee are pleased to put on me by yours ; for though I have the honour to
represent my deceased worthie father's familie, yet aither for his vertues or
other accompbshments which rendered him so fitted to serve both the church
and his countrie, I can in noe wayes lay claime to ; yet may they leave ane
