228. Richt honorabill Sir, I haive ressaved zour lettir desyring me to go at this tyine
to my Lord of Stirling to end zour buissines concerning zour Knicht Baronet-
schip. For answer, Sir, I procured zou ane patent to that effect, quiche I hope
sould haive served zour tourne, had it not beene for the curiositie of sume that
advysit zou to the contrairie, quiche is in James Kininmont his handis, and
quiche ze may recover quhen it pleases zou. It will serve zour turne, Sir, con-
cerning zour provisioun of zour hous : I sail be ansuerable thairfoir, wnder the
haiserd of my estait. As for the prioritie, I ever told zou thatt the same was
to be ordered by the Kingis Maiestie at the Parliament : and as for my at-
tendans, I protest befoir God, it is impossible for me, for I haive resolved at
this tyme to lurk : nether have I maid anie preparatioun to go east, and I pro-
test befoir God thatt thatt buissines of zouris cost me abov ane thousand pund
Scottis out of my oune purs, besyd zour allouans ; besydis I ame so buissied
with my harbrie that I can not leive the same, or wtherwayis it will be in
haiserd of tinsell. So entreating zou to pardone me in this mater, 1 rest,

worship, that on Woddinsday, the twelf of this instant, my Lord past downe
to ane Backsyd betuis the north craiges and the Cannagait, and seyed on your
worship's horse both the fute mantells, who receavit them most gentlie and
