57. King William the Third to [George, first Earl of Melville]— That he had
been informed by Major-General Mackay of the disposition of the
troops, which he deemed good, so far as he could judge, not knowing
the country — and requiring the earl to give Mackay all the assistance
possible. The king had caused arrest Sir J. Cochrane and Ferguson,
and wishes the informations necessary to transport them to Scotland
to be sent up, otherwise they would have to be released. Was to
