Hie jacet vir illustrissimus, Gulielmus Douglasius, Angusise Comes, prius
Glenbervie Cornarchus, qui dicto comitatui hereditario jure successit :

Hie jacet illustrissiina fsemina, Domina Aegidia Graham, praefati comitis
uxor, quae cum 40 annis cum ipso conjunctissime vixisset ac vidua
marito et sibi hoc monumentum posuisset, obiit anno
aatatis die anno Domini. 1
By his countess, William, ninth Earl of Angus, had thirteen children,
nine sons and four daughters. The sons were —
1. "William, tenth Earl of Angus, of whom a memoir follows.
2. Mr. Archibald Douglas, who was parson of Glenbervie in 1581 and
1583. He died in 1584, without issue.
3. Mr. George Douglas, sometimes styled of Panlathie. In 1570 he
was presented by his father to the chaplainry of Drumlithie, the
revenues of which were to be applied towards his education.
He was provided in half the lands of Panlathie in 1576, and
in 1590 was infeft under reversion in large portions of the lands
of the earldom of Angus. According to Godscroft, his father
purposed making over the earldom to him, and disinheriting
his eldest son, but he predeceased his father, without issue, at
Cockburn before 15th December 1590, and was buried at
Douglas. 2
4. Sir Eobert Douglas, who obtained Glenbervie, and carried on the
family of Douglas of Glenbervie. A separate pedigree is given of
this family in another part of this work.
5. Mr. Duncan Douglas, who, in 1585, succeeded his brother Archibald
