514 THE WEDDERBURN BOOK.
Part vi. I regret that I should thus be unable to trace the origin of this family of the
Chap. . namej nor <joes there seem, much hope of further light being shown, as the entire
records of King and Queen County, Virginia, were, I am informed, destroyed of the
Federal troops in March, 1864, and the present members of the family, who have
supplied me with the following account of the descent from David Wedderburn, are
unable to clear the matter up.

III. William Wedderburn [1764 — 1840], second sou of Alexander Wedderburn and Lydia Strachey,

up the representation of the family, was born in King and Queen County 25 or 28- Nov. 1764. He died

the 70th year of her age, aud was buried at Alexandria, 3 had issue one son,
1 The following account in the hand of William Wedderburn (b. 1764, d. 1840) is copied from an old family
Bible in possession of William Moore of Alexandria, U.S.A., a grandson of Mary Strachey Wedderburn
and William Morgan. "David Wedderburn from Scotland, married Caty Thomas of King and
Queen County, Virginia, about 1720 or 1725. He bad issue three sous aud one daughter. His two

She had one child, Peter Kemp. She married Alexander Wedderburn in 1758. She was the second
daughter of Dr. John Strachey, formerly of London. John Wedderburn, b. 24 June 1762, died
July 10 1810, left issue. William Wedderburn bom Nov. 25 1764. Mary S. Wedderburn born — ,

" William Wedderburn, b. Nov. 25 1764, son of Alexander and Lydia Wedderburn, was married
to Ann Grymes, second d. of Benjamin aud Priscilla Grymes, on the 24th March 1792. Alexander
John Wedderburn, son of William and Ann Wedderburn, was born March 11 1812.- Ann Wedder-
burn departed this life 13 Nov. 1836 iu the 70th year of her age leaving one child, Dr. Alexander John
Wedderburn, assistant surgeon in U.S. ship Constellation, Commodore Dallas commander, leaving
(her husband) to lament her loss ; with him she had lived upwards of 44 years in love and affection."
In sending this to George Chase Wedderburn, Mr. Moore adds, " After the death of Aunt Wedderburn
Uncle W. sent his negroes and furniture to your father, then living iu New Orleans, aud came to live
with us. After some time he went down into King George County to visit his wife's niece, Mrs.
Patey Stuart, and was taken sick and died and was buried there."
5 These dates are not quite certain, there being some variations between the letters of William Wedderburn
and the account given by him in the family Bibie.
3 The following is the inscription on her tomb, " In memory of Anne Wedderburn, who departed this life
Nov. 13 1836 in the 70th year of her age. Blessed are those who die in the Lord,"
