3. John Wedderburn, b. 1S04, died at Norham in 1882, ret. 78, and is there buried. He married Part VI.
Mary Hewitt, and by her had issue, Chap IV.
i. James Wedderburn of Norham, who married at Durham in 1862 Elizabeth Heslop
and has issue (a) "William, b. 1864, m. Susannah Pearson Alston; (b) John, b.
1876 ; (c) James, b. 1879; (rf) Henry, b. 1882; (e) Joseph, b. 1886; (/) Mary Ann,
b. 1866; (g) Rachel, d. ret. 24; (A) Elizabeth, b. 1870, m. Samuel Stewart Sutherland ;
(i) Sarah Louisa, b. 1872, m. William Maimers; (j ) Lydia Hewitt, b. 1873; (k)
Margaret, d. ret. 8; and (I) Annie, b. 1884.
ii. Henry Wedderburn, b. 1S36, living at Norham unm. 1896.
and
Mary Ann, m. 1S57 John Briggs, and has issue.
4. Christopher "Wedderburn died about 1888. He married Margaret Geggie and had issue
three sons and two daughters, viz : —
i. James "Wedderburn, killed on the railway. Unmarried,
ii. Thomas Wedderburn of Tweedmouth.
iii. John Wedderburn, in Australia,
and
Isabella, now in Newcastle, and Agnes, who died at Tweedmouth.
5. William Wedderburn of Horncliffe, was born at Loanend 15 July 1811 and was living in 1890. He
married in 1835, at Wion Chain Bridge, Euphemia Aleorn, daughter of Robert Alcorn, and by her
had issue five sons and four daughters : —
i. Robert Wedderburn. now of Newcastle, born 1841 ; married at Coldingham 186S, Eliza
Fulton, daughter of John Fulton, and by her has issue (a) William, born at Coldingliam 1868;
(6) John, born at Ayton 1870 ; (c) Robert, born at Ayton 1871 ; (d) Henry, born at New-
castle 1876 ; (e) James, born at Newcastle 1880 ; (/) Jessie, born at Newcastle 1874 ;
(g) Euphemia, born at Newcastle 1874.
ii. Henry Wedderburn, born 1845-46, died at Loanend 15 Sept. 1885. His occupation is variously
described in the registers relating to him. He married at Berwick, in March 1873, Jane Walker,
daughter of William Walker of Carriden, and by her had issue four sons and two daughters,
viz. (a) William, born at Horncliffe, 1873 ; (6) Henry, born there 1877; (c) Robert, born there
1883 ; (d) Andrew, born and died there 1885-86 ; and (e) Jane, born at Carriden 1875 ; (/)
Euphemia, born at Loanend 18S0. His widow was living at Norham in 1896 (Tyndal House,
Duddo, Norham).
iii. William Wedderburn of Horncliffe, born 1850. He married at Berwick, 1SS3, Mary Leitch,
daughter of James Leitch of Norham East Mains, and by her has issue (a) William, born at
Horncliffe, 1885 ; (o) James Leitch, born there 1887 ; (c) Jannet, born at Norham, 1883 ; and
(rf) Euphemia Alcorn, born and died at Horncliffe, 1889.
iv. James Wedderburn of Horncliffe, born 1S53, married at Wallace Green, 1879, Elizabeth Moor
"Wight, daughter of John Wight of Tweedmouth, and has issue, all born at Horncliffe,
(a) William, born 1880 ; (6) John, born 1SS4; (c) Henry, born 1886 ; (rf) James Alcorn,
born 1888 ; (c) Robert, born 1891 ; and (/) Jane, born 1882.
y. John Wedderburn of Blenheim Street, Newcastle, born 1855. He married at Newcastle, 1885, Anne
Morison, daughter of John Morison, and has had issue, (a) Elizabeth, born at Newcastle, 1886;
(b) Euphemia, born and died there, 1889-90.
and
Jane, born 1835 ; Agnes, born 1S39, married at Newcastle, 1880, George Allan of Newcastle ;
Margaret, born 1843, married at Horncliffe, 1868, James Robert Robinson ; and Esther, born
1847, died at Horncliffe, 1890.
I now revert to James Wedderburn of Longridge (younger brother of Henry Wedderburn, of Loanend,
ante p. 501), from whom have descended several families of the name in and near Newcastle.
Ha. James Wedderburn, born about 1745-50, left Allerdean and went to Longridge, where he was
for some years in charge of the toll-bar, and where he died 1S25-35. 1 He married Cristina , and by
her had issue two daughters, Margaret and Ann, and two sons, viz. : —
1. Henry Wedderburn, of Longridge, and later of Felton. He died unmarried at Newcastle,
18 Nov. 1868, ret. 79.
2. Andrew Wedderburn. See below, Ilia.
Ma. Andrew Wedderburn, b. 1792. He removed to Newcastle where he was engaged as an
engineer, and where he died in 1866, ret. 74. He married Ann Allison, daughter of Robert Allison, and
by her (died at Newcastle, 29 May 1856, ret. 58) had issue six sons and three daughters, viz. : —
i, James Wedderburn, engineer, born 1823 ; died at Newcastle, 15 June 1881 (L.W. 42), He married
twice, (i.) at Ancroft, co. Durham, 1845, Eleanor Dayer, daughter of Thomas Dayer, and by her
(died at Newcastle, 1875, ret. 50) had issue ; see below, (ii.) At Newcastle, 1876, Jane Crow,
daughter of Robert Crow, but by her had no issue.
Of his first marriage the issue was three sons, viz. : —
1, Andrew Wedderburn of Scotswood Road, Newcastle, engine fitter, b. 1845, married
Mary Ann Aiston, and by her has three daughters all born at Newcastle, viz.:
(a) Jane Eleanor, born 1870 ; (b) Elizabeth, born 1871 ; (c) Sarah Isabella,
born 1875.
1 His great-nephew, William of Horncliffe, says that he is buried there, and speaks of a tombstone there
to him and his wife, but gives no inscription.
