and in Kent, 1 1780-90. Caap ' "•
William Wedderbum [1780 — 1843], is said to have been born in Upper Banchory, co. Kincardine,

worth, 5 July 1867.
1 This account is compiled from information supplied by Christopher Stewart Wedderbum, who said that
he believed his father had two brothers, one of them a stone-mason in Aberdeen ; by Christopher
William, his sou ; and by William Wedderbum (born 1840). It has also been verified by reference
to the certificates in the Registrar- General's Office at Somerset House.
2 Christopher Stewart Wedderbum could only tell me that his father was born in Banchory, entered in
the army, and died in Westminster about 1850. As to his birth there is no entry of his baptism in
the parish registers of Banchory Devenick or Banchory Ternan. The former have been searched from
1713 — 1800, but contain no mention of the name ; the latter have also been searched, 1670 — 18S0,
and contain an entry of the baptism, 23 May 1706, of John Wedderbum, sou to William
Wedderbum in Buss, and of the baptisms of the three daughters of James Wedderbum at
Inchmarlo and his wife, Isabell Forbes (see ante, p. 486). There are, however, some blanks in those
registers ; and William may be a son of James at Inchmarlo. As to his death, there can, however,
be no doubt that he is identical with the William Wedderbum who died at Marsham Street. The
note in the certificate, "Sarah Wedderbum informs," i.e., informs the registrar of the death, is
probably an error for " Hannah" Wedderbum, the name of his wife.
