ROBERT, SON OF ALEXANDER. Ill
(D.W. 15o), with whom she is named in 1621 and 1626 (D.W. 2a, 3, Partn.
9/i, 16 b). She, perhaps, is the person of her name named in the Dundee cha P- J
mortcloth dues as buried 1635-36 (D.M D. 1).
2. Eufame Wedderburn, born in Dundee 28 Dec, and baptized there
30 Jan 1592. She was apparently put out to nurse with one Isobell
Barclay, as her father notes in his Compt Bulk his payments for her board
in 1593 (D.W. 17c). She also is named in his settlements of 1594-95
(ib. \lali). She married, 11 Nov. 1610, "in the kyrk of the Manys,"
James Sympsone, merchant (D.W. 15 m), and would seem to have had issue,
as her father notes that he lent her the cradle (D.W. 16 e). Her husband
is also occasionally mentioned in the Compt Buik in regard to business
transactions (D.W. 16), and as borrowing " Blundevill " and "Drake's
Voyages" from his father-in-law (D.W. 2a).
3. Matild Wedderburn, born in Dundee 25 Jan., and baptized there
26 Jan. 1595 (D.W. 14 c, 15 c, 17 a). Also named in the settlement of
1595 (ib. 17 a b).
4. Juliet "Wedderburn, born and baptized in Dundee 14 May 1598. Died
23 May 1616 (D.W. lid, 15d).
5. Katharen Wedderburn, born in Dundee 31 Aug. and baptized there
6 Sept. 1600(D.W. 14/, 15/). The Dundee records contain no mention of her.
6. Isobell Wedderburn, born in Dundee 19 Feb., and baptized there 21 Feb.
I 604 (D.W. 1 4 i. 1 5 i). Of her again, the Dundee records contain no mention.
7. Magdalen Wedderburn, born at Westhall 23 Feb. 1606, and baptized at
Murroes the same day (D.W. 14/, 15/). There is no certain reference to
her in the Dundee records, but a single mention of a Magdalene Wedderbura,
wife of George Inglish, 3 Nov. 1652 (D.B.R. 457), who cannot be otherwise
identified, probably refers to her.
3. Robert Wedderburn 1 [1567-93], third son of Alexander Wedderburn and Janet
Myln, is first named 30 March 1573 (D.W. 1 1 h) when his grandfather and uncle,
old Robert Wedderburn and Robert the notary settle, subject to their own life-
rent, a North Argylegait land on his father the clerk, for life, and on him heritably.
This he afterwards exchanged on 30 Dec. 1 577 with his eldest brother Alexander
for a land, called the Greneland (S.W. 35-37 ; D.W. 12 h), a transaction which he
ratified later, 16 Oct. 1588, "being now of perfytt aige, and past twentie ane
yeiris of aige compleit."so that he was born about 1567 (S.W. 60, 61). Meanwhile
lie is named, 12 Feb. 1585, as granting a discharge with the consent of his curators
(R.D. 1); 24 May 15S7, as "younger, witness" and "burgess," although he was
not then admitted (D.P.B. 267 d) ; and, 13 June 1587, as himself granting a
discharge to his brother David, in whose favour he made a will, afterwards revoked,
on July 10 in that year (D.W. 11 r, 13 e). He is also named in the confirmation
of his parents' wills (Ed.T. 5, 6) and in David's Compt Bulk in regard to his share
in their estates, 1587-88 (D.W. 12 a b).- He was a merchant in Dundee and seems
to have gone abroad at one time, 1589-91, to Bordeaux in the " Nychtengall "
( D.W. 8 c) s ; while, 7 Dec 1 592, he contracts with William Man to carry some goods
belonging to Mau " from Tees River in England to the Isle of Walker in Zetland
(R.D. 3) ; and there is a bond to him for the price of some " wade," no doubt in
connection with his trade, 8 April 1593 (R.D. 2). His admission as burgess, by
the privilege of his late father, is dated 7 May 1591 (D.L.B. 31), soon after which
he got into difficulty for aiding one Robert Jaksoun in an assault on an Englishman
named William Milburne (R.P.C. 14). This is recorded in the complaint of

1 He is occasionally mentioned as acting as witness, e.g., 12 Oct. 1587, 17 May 1589 (D.P.B. 261, 315) ;
7 July 1589 (D.W. 11 s) ; 21 May 1591 (D.W. 11 p ; D.P.B. 287, 288 o) ; 27 July 1592 (D.C. 35 n,
and see facsimile of his signature, vol, ii.. opp. p. 192) ; and 8 Jan. 1594 (D.P.B. 294). On these
occasions he is sometimes called " younger " or " burgess " or is identified as " brother of the clerk."
"* Other dealings with him are named in the Compt Buik, e.g., (D.W. 3) " Lent Robert my brother a pair
plet slevis, a pair flasses."
