102 THE WEDDEBBUBN BOOK.
Part ii. 4. Alexander Wedderburn [1587 — 1608-9?]. not named in the above register, and
cha P- '■ born therefore after 1586. He is only four times named in the Dundee Becords,
viz., (a) 1605, May 18, when Bobert Wedderburn, notary, and Alexander, his son,
witness a precept (D.P.B. 339 c) ; (b) 1606, Sept. 18, when Bobert Wedderburn,
elder, and Margaret Myln, his wife, settle the " Creneland " on their son and heir
apparent, Alexander Wedderburn, and on their two daughters, Janet and Elizabeth
(ib. 364); (c) 1607, June 14, when Bobert Wedderburn, elder, burgess, and Alexander,
his son, are witnesses (ib. 368) ; and (d) 1608, April, 28, when Alexander, son of
Bobert Wedderburn, notary, is a witness (ib. 370 c). He is also named once in
the Compt Buik of his cousin, David Wedderburn, as witness with his father
24 May 1608 (D.W. 17/). This is the last mention of him, and it is clear, from
the fact that his cousin Peter was heir to his father (ut sup.) that he died s.p., and
no doubt unmarried, in his father's life. Probably he died 1608-9, as 7 March
1609 we find his father settling his North Argylegait property on his great-
nephews Peter, son to the clerk, and Alexander, son of David of the Compt
Buik (D.W. 21 e, D.P.B. 374).
and two daughters,
1. Janet Wedderburn. First named in a bond, 4 Nov. 1603, by her parents to her
(J).B.B. 351), and again in an obligation to her and her father, 26 July 1605
(ib. 365 a). See also the settlement on her brother Alexander, 18 Sept. 1606
(D.P.B. 364). She died imm. before 1611.
2. Elizabeth Wedderburn, named in an obligation to her parents and herself,
20 May 1605 (D.B.R. 365 6), and in the settlement (ut svp) of 1606 (D.P.B. 364).
She also died unm. before 161 1. 1
1 With regard to the death of all Kobert's children in his life, reference may be made to the fact that the
plague came to Dundee from " St Bartillis merket in Franchland " early in ] 605 and was still raging
in Nov. 1608, four thousand deaths having occurred up to that time (see D.P.B. vol. 262, post, ii, p, 236).
