and, later in the same year, 7, 30 May, 18 July (S.W. 22, 23, 24 ; D.P.B. 183) there are
references to him as apparently still alive. He may have survived till 1575-76, but died
before 30 Dec. 1577, when he is distinctly named as deceased (S.W. 35-36). References
to him will also be found many years later, 15 March 1588 (D.L.B. 30), 5 Jan. 1616
(D.P.B. 405) and 12 Jan. 1629 (D.C. 58).
He had married before 1540 Janet Kyd, who is named with him as his wife 1 April

David Guthrie, 13 Nov. 1564, when they make a settlement on their son
David (ib. 120); 26 Nov. 1565, when she is party to an action (D.B.R. 146 c);
30 Oct., 2 Dec. 1568, when they acquire some property in Dundee (D.P.B. 76), and
11 March 1574, when she gets a decree (D.B.R. 210 b). 3 Guthrie died between
this last date and 11 Nov. 1575, when she is named as his relict (D.B.R. 222 c).
In the next year, 28 March 1576, Barbara Wedderburn, relict of David Guthrie,
and her children sue Thomas Dowie, who objects to Alexander Wedderburn, the
clerk, acting as clerk in the cause, because he is brother german to Barbara, an
objection disallowed by the Court (D.B.R. 226). By this marriage Barbara

there is a decree in which Barbara is called his relict (D.B.R. 300 d), and perhaps
before 11 Sept. 1594, when her son, Robert Guthrie, binds himself to pay her an
annuity, and Peter Imbrie is not named (D.B.R. 297 d). She is often mentioned
