my fifth son is a Carpenter — my sixth son Peter is a bricklayer and is
singgle yet and lives at home with me — my only daughter Sarah that is
living is singgle yet and lives at home with me— I have buryed four
Daughters and one Son and I and all my Sons is but low in circumstance
wee find it hard geeting a comfortable living I have married a Secon wife
in the year 1787 She was brought up in the way of the friends principle—
we Received thy letter and other writings in the last of February with
great satisfaction to here of thy health and welfare in family and thine
aged uncle health also— wee have all agreed to Sighn the Deed of Consent
that thee hase requested hoping thee may obtain the estate thereby — wee
Being a great Distance apart it is my Desire that thee would write to in-
form me if thee hase obtained the estate agreeable to thy wishes — it hase
been a long time since wee have herd from any of our relations in Eng-
land — which I expect the Revolution hase been the cause of it wee had
a great Deal of Trouble and Losses at that time when thee writes to
me direct thy letter to the care of George Barclay in Philadelphia I Con-
clude with remembering my kind love to thee and thy aged uncle and
Kind Kinsman To me.

The next letter was written by a granddaughter, Katherine,
who had married one David Stout. It reads as follows :
State of New Jersey, County of Middesex Township of South Amboy,
March 8.
Dear Kinsman this is to inform you throue the Mercy of God I am now
Living the Youngest Daughter of my father Your Kinsman John Barclay
is now deceased aged 84 he Lived in township of South Amboy I now
Live in the same place above men No dout my friend but you recollect me
as I was with my father at Trenton to Tea at the house of Joseph Whorls.
I have fore Sons and Seven Daughters now Living my first Son named
John Barclay a Carpenter 2 Son David a hatter 3 Son Robert Davis a
hatter 4 Son Charles Carpenter I have too Daughters that is not married
the eldest of the Too is named Charlotte Sophia after the Queen of Grate
Britain She Lives in the City of New York hir age is twenty one She is
a Milener My husban and I being Loyalists we thought proper to name
after the Queen. My youngest daughter named Hannah Lives with hir
parants at home. My husband is Living he is aged 68 years I am 60
years old the 17th of this month Dear Kinsman we are all hastening to the
World of Spirits I was hapy to hear from you and your aged uncel al-

me a greate deal of pleasure to think we can Correspond with our kind
relations at so grate distance by Letter and althrough I have chaned my
yet my affections are still the Same for the family as when with my kind
father at home if you right to me direct your letter to the Reverend Abraha

delphia No more my kind Love and best wishes to your uncel and your
self this from your affectionate friend kinswoman

The last in this series of letters which accompanied the sign-
ing of the deed of consent was written by Rev. David Barclay, of
Bound Brook, a son of Charles Barclay above mentioned. Rev.
David Barclay wrote as follows:
