122 THE EARLY RECORDS OF
being Item No. 22 of " Inventury of Papers and Writts returned
by Mr. Hew Craufurd, Clerk to the Signet, to Mary Hill of
Lambhill," and the receipt for which she signs as " Mary Hill " of
date 24th April, 1753. 1 The likelihood is they were married in
1 76 1, the eldest child of Mary Hill and Robert Graham, viz., Lilias
Graham, being born in 1 762. 2
Respecting Robert Grahams Family.
Robert Graham, who served some time in the Navy, was a
younger son of John Graham of Kilmardinny, and brother of
Walter Graham, who succeeded his Father in that estate. 3
The mural inscription previously referred to is as follows, viz. :
" Sacred to the Memory of Robert Graham, Esq., of Kilmannan,
ob. 1804, aet. 82.
" Also of his wife, Mrs. Mary Hill of Gairbraid and Lambhill,
ob. 1809, ^t- 79> an d °f their daughter, Lillias Graham, ob. 6th
December, 1836, a^t. 74."
Mary Hill's signature, as appended to the " Inventury of
Papers" above referred to, is a strong and distinct autograph, and
it is interesting to note that after her husband's death in 1804 she
appears to have reverted to or used her maiden name of Hill. 4
Their issue, viz. :
