How art thou honour'd, number'd with her friends,
For she distinguishes the good and wise.
The sweet-tongu'd Murray near her side attends.
Now to my heart the glance of Howard flies !
Now Hervey, fair of face, I mark full well,
With thee, Youth's youngest daughter, sweet Lepel !"
The more recent annotators * on this
poem, have committed a whimsical mis-
take, in assigning the part of the " sweet-
tongu'd Murray," to the Lord Chief
Justice Mansfield, who at that time
must have been a school-boy. Of its
true appropriation there can be no
doubt ; and the epithet bestowed on
Mrs Murray, alludes evidently to one
of the fascinating accomplishments for
