MONUMENTAL INSCRIPTION FOR
LADY GRISELL BAILLIE.
Sir Thomas Burnet, one of the
Judges of the Court of Common Pleas,
and youngest son of Bishop Burnet,
wrote the following inscription for my
mother, which is engraved on marble,
on the left side of the Monument. He
knew her well, and would have said
much more, could the place have ad-
mitted of it, or had it been proper in a
thing of that kind.

The Right Honourable Lady Grisell Baillie,
wife of George Paillie of Jerviswood, Esq.
eldest daughter
of the Right Honourable Patrick, Earl of Marchmont ;
a pattern to her sex, and an honour to her country.
She excelled in the characters of a daughter, a wife, a mother.
