What I have written thus far is of interest to me mainly
for its bearing on the origin of the name, and of some of
the families of Gamel, or Gemmill, in early times. In
printing these notes, I take the opportunity of adding
some information regarding my own branch of the name.
My forefathers were, as will be seen, members of the old
Raith or Fenwick stock. If this little volume, incomplete
and defective as I know it is, interests any of those who
may come after me, or any one of the same name, it will
be a sufficient reward for any trouble in compiling it.
