the field (pi. i, fig. i). Creft,
a falamander couchant reguar-
dant, ducally gorged, in flames proper.
Variations.
Sir Thomas Smith, Principal Secretary. Sable, on
fefTe dancette, between three lions rampant, each
fupporting a caftle, all argent, feven billets of the
field ; quartering, Argent, on a bend fable three crofTes
crofslet of the field, in the unifier chief a martlet of
the fecond (for Charnock) (pi. i, fig. 2).
Sir Thomas Smith of Theydon Mount, co. Effex, was
fecretary to King Edward the Sixth and Queen Elizabeth.
