Ii-ish chronicle, Toshach of the Isles, and who lived in the reign of Kenneth
MacAlpin. Somerled's name is Norse ; in Gaelic, Somhairle, and English,
tiamuel."
The genealogy of the clan Donald is thus given in " Collectanea tie
Rebus Albanicis," Iona Club, page 61 : —

Angus Mor, sou of Donald, son of Ranald, son of Somerled. This Somerled was
the sone of Gillebryde M c Gilleadamnane, vie Sella, vie Mearshaighe, vie Swyffiue,
vie Malhheussa, vie Eacinie, vie Gothefred. This Gotheray wes the sone of Fer-

In the Manuscript of 1450, the genealogy is carried up through the
Milesian kings of Ireland to Adam. The editor has, however, omitted
this. Heating's " History of Ireland" gives this genealogy more dis-
tinctly, pretending even to give every name back to Adam : —
