1874; married, on 8 September 1857, Elizabeth, daughter of
George Mitchell, C.E., who was born 1 february 1828 and died
12 april 1896 ; issue four sons and one daughter —
1. Moncrieff Ellis.
2. George Arthur.
3. Alexander Moncrieff, married, 6 September 1894, Bessie
Craig, daughter of the reverend William Boyd, ll.d.,
and have issue —
1. Alexander Moncrieff.
2. William Boyd.
3. Catherine Paton.
4. Charles Henry, died in infancy.
5. Elizabeth Alexandrina.
3. Jessie Alice, born 1825 ; died 1843 ; unmarried.
4. Grace Alice, born 1827; died 1859; unmarried.
5. Moncrieff, born 25 may 1831 ; died 2 march 1886; married
Eliza, daughter of D. Macarthur, manufacturer, Glasgow,
and left issue a daughter, Helen MacEwan.
6. John Moncrieff, born 1835 ; died 1869 ; unmarried.
9. Jane Alexandrina, born 25 march 1804; married, on 7 July 1829,
James Finlayson, writer, Glasgow. She died in 1868, leaving
issue four sons and two daughters —
1. Grace, born 13 february 1832.
2. Matthew, born 27 april 1835 ; married, 1872, Maggie Young,
and died in 1883.
3. Alexander, born 5 august 1837; married, on 13 april 1864, to
Mary Gibson. He died 11 august 1868, leaving issue three
daughters —
1. Mary, born 5 may 1865.
2. Jane Alexandrina.
3. Alexandra.
4. Mary, born 15 June 1839; died 11 October 1857.
5. James, born 31 October 1841 ; died 12 November 1848.
6. William, born 27 april 1845 ; married, on 10 June 1868, Annie
Hain. He died on 18 may 1897.
