Colonel Grierson has written and the war office has
published "Armed Strengths of the Armies of Russia,
Germany and Japan," " Staff Duties in the Field : a
study of the operations of a british army corps and a
cavalry division from the point of view of the general
staff, after the german of major Cardinal von Wid-
derns," and " Handbook of the Russian Army."
2. George Lyon Walker, captain royal horse artillery, bom
6 february 1861 ; educated at Glasgow academy and
Woolwich ; entered the royal artillery in 1880, served
in the Afghan war of that year (medal) and in the
Bikanir expedition ; went to India 1891 and died of
cholera at Lucknow, 19 October 1892. A monumental
brass has been placed in Glasgow cathedral to his
memory by the officers of the various batteries in
which he served in token of the esteem in which
he was held as a soldier and a comrade.
