VII. James Hamilton of Woodhall.

is termed " sone lauchfull of John Ha-
milton of Woodhall"
He was appointed, in 1642, tutor to
Alexander, son of Alexander Hamilton
of Haggs.
By his wife, Giles, daughter of Mr
Andrew Knox, Bishop of the Isles,
afterwards Bishop of Raphoe in Ireland,
he had issue :
VIII. James Hamilton of Wood-
hall, who, in 1654, was appointed one
of the tutors to the children of the de-
ceased Robert Hamilton of Milburne.
He was a commissioner of supply for
the shire of Lanark in 1661, and again
in 1678.

Arms. — According to Nisbet, the Heraldry, i.
arms of " James Hamilton of Woodhall,' 1
Baron of Taukertoun, descended of
Torrence," were — Gules, three holliu
leaves conjoined at the stalk, Or, be-
twixt as many cinquefoils, argent.
Crest. — A dexter hand grasping a
hollin leaf, proper.
Motto. — " Semper virescens."*
» Crawford, in his Genealogical Collections, says that the Crawfords of Jordanhill quarter their
arms with those of the house of Woodhall.
