appears from bis will, registered of date
7th July 1670, and was succeeded by
his eldest son,
III. Gabriel Hamilton of West-
burn, who, for his firm adherence to his
religious opinions, also suffered much
persecution duving the reign of Charles
Wodrow's the Second. In the year 1 676 he was

imprisoned, under an accusation ot hav-
ing frequented conventicles, and, after
three months' imprisonment, refusing to
purge himself by oath, got off with a fine
ibii'. of 1000 merks. In 1663 he wasagain im-
prisoned, but, having demanded a trial,
and nothing appearing against him in
the precognition, he was liberated. He

dietatis baronice de Carmunnock," dated
3d June 1670. Dying, without issue,
lie was succeeded by his brother,
III. Archibald Hamilton of West-
burn, who left issue, a son,
IV. Gabriel Hamilton of West-
Ihid. Lib. xciv.burn, who had a charter of confirmation,
under the great seal, " Gabrieli Hamil-
ton, nunc de Westburn, flio l"gilimo natu
maxima Archibaldi Hamilton de West-
burn, dimidielatis terrarum et baronice
de Carmunnock," dated 12th February
1733. He was succeeded by bis son,
V. Captain Gabriel Hamilton of
Westburn, who, in a writ which I have
seen, is designated as " eldest lawful son

He married Anne, eldest daughter of Baronage, its.
George Dun das of Duddingston in Lin-
lithgowshire, with whom he acquired
that estate, and by whom he had issue,
besides other children :
1. John Hamilton Dundas, his heir.
I, Daughter, Christian, married, 2d Wood's Peei-
July 1777, to the Hon. Charles Napier'
of Merchistonhall, second son of Francis,
fifth Lord Napier, and had issue.
VI. John Hamilton Dundas of Dud-
dingston and Westburn, who had issue :
1 . Gabriel Hamilton Dundas, his heir.
2. James, an artillery cadet, who was
drowned, off Weymouth, in the Aber-
gavenny East Indiaman in 1805.
John Hamilton Dundas died in 1820.
and was succeeded by,
VII. Gabriel Hamilton Dundas,
now of Duddingston and Westburn.
He married Isabella Bryson, eldest
daughter of James Dennistoun of Col-
grain, by whom be has issue :
1. John Hamilton Dundas, an officer
in the 15th Hussars.
2. James Hamilton Dundas, and other
children.
Arms, according to Nisbet,
Gules, three cinquefoils, ermine, within
a border potent counterpotent of the
second and first.
Crest. — A hand grasping a lance in
bend, proper.
Motto. — " Et arma et virtus."
