He was thus, like his elder brother the Vicecome^, in full possession of
Ochiltree, besides, as here intimated, other possessions on the south side of
the Forth, and coupling this grant with what will follow, the family (precisely
as in the Stewart instance), in his person, must now have taken the surname
of Stirling.

COMITE de Strivelyn," who thus had fully succeeded Alexander his brother
in that sheriffdom that he is proved to have held also by the previous
authority.

Earl Maldowen succeeded in 1225, and is supposed to have lived till about
1270, it may have been between those years.

It has no date, but immediately following there is a supplication to Alex-
ander II. to confirm it, which is done, accordingly, under the titles thereof
