66 NOTES TO GENEALOGICAL ACCOUNT OF

Collegiate Church of Lynclaudene (Lincluden), Alexander Nairn, of Sandford, our Comp-
troller, and Mr. George Shoreswood, Chancellor of Dunkeld, and Clerk.
The exercise of the great feudal powers as granted above was finally put an end to
by the act abolishing heritable jurisdictions, 1748, though much had fallen into disuse. A
fragment of the old stocks yet remain at Duntreath as a memorial of 'the good old times.'

evidenter, et sit notum quod anno Incarnationis Domini (1477 24 June) indictione decima.
Pontificatus (of Pope Sextus 4th) anno sexto. In mei notarii publici et testium sub-
scriptorum presentia personaliter constitutus nobilis et potens Dominus Johannes Comes de
Levynext ac Dominus Dernlie mihi notario publico infra scripto quandem literam in papiro
scriptam sub sigillo privato Supremi Domini nostri Regis . . . emanatam et sigillatam ejus-
que subscriptione manuali ut mihi apparuit munitam tradidit perlegendam, comparandam
transumendam et in publicam formam instrumentalem redigendam. Cujus quidem litere
tenor sequitur et est talis. We grant and permittis to our cousing Johne Lord Dernlie, that
for samikill as he has resignit in our hands his lands of the Lordshipe of Dernlie Incheche-
nane lyande, in the sheriffdome of Renfrew, Torboltoune, Dregairn, and Galstoun, lyand in
the sheriffdome of Ayr, and the lands of Bathcat, lyand in the sherriffdome of Edinburgh,
to remain in our hands quhile (until) his entre to his part of the lands of the Earldome of
Levynax, and thereafter quhile he haif infeft and gyffyne to our weilbelovit cousing and
Chancellor Andro Lord Avendale the said lands of the Earldom of Levynax in lyferent, als
frely and in sicklyke forme as our foresaid Chancellor had the samyn lands of us before. 1
And als quhill our cousing Wilyeam Edmonstoun of Duntreath be made sikker (sure) be
the said Johne Lord Dernlie for his part, and in so far as he may of the lands of Duntreth,
Dungroyabir, the Quhilt, Ballewane, Blairgaro, Enbaly, 2 the Glyn, and Carcane lyande
in the same Erldome, quhilk he has be infeftment and gyft heretably of our progenitour
(James the Second) of before, that our said Chancellour and cousing Willyam of Edmon-
stoun beand contentaid sikker, as said is, in the best forme that can be di visit we sail (give ?)
you incontinent therafter again to the said Lord Dernlie all his said lands of Dernlie,
Inchenane, Torboltoun, Dregarn, Galstoun, and Bathkat, and infeft him heretably therin
