12 PEDIGREE OF DOUGLAS.
aud make knowtie that the coat armour appertaining and Belonging to
John Douglass of Inchmarlo Lineallie descended of the familie of the
Earle of Mortoun and approven of and confirmed by me to him Is
matriculat in my said public register upon the day and dait of this
presents.
And is thus blazoned viz. the said John Douglass of Inchmarlo for his
attchievement and ensigu armoriall Bears two coats cpiarterly, first
Argent, ane heart crowned Giiles, on a chiefe azure three starrs of the
field As the paternal coat of Douglass Second Argent three Pyles Giiles
on a chiefe of the second two starrs of the field as the coat of Douglass
of Lochlcven Third as the second the fourth as the first all within a
Bordiir counter componed or and sable.
On ane Helmet befitting his degree with a mantle Giiles doubled
Argent and wreath of his collours is sett for hid crest A dexter hand
appearing out of a bush holding ane oake leaff proper. The motto is
ane escroll Taudem fit Surciilus Arbor.
Which coat above blazoned I declare to be the said John Douglass
his coat and Bearing. In testimonie whereof I have subscribed this
extract with my hand and have caused append my seal of office thereto.
Given at Edinburgh the seventeenth day of February and of our said
Soveraigue Lords reigne the twenty seventh year 1675

To all and sundry whom these Presents do or may concern.
"We, Robert Auriol Drummond Hay, Earl of Ivinnoul, Lord Lyon
King°at-arms for Scotland, do hereby Certify and Declare that the
Eusigns Armorial pertaining and belonging to John Douglass, of
Tilwhilly, Esq. are matriculated in the Public Registers of the Lyon
office, and are blazoned as on the margin, thus : — viz. Quarterly first and
fourth, argent, a man's heart, imperially crowned, proper, on a chief
azure three stars of the field for Douglass. Second, argent, three pyles
issuing from a chief, gules, the last charged with two stars of the first for
Douglass of Lochleven. Third, argent, three mascles sable, on a chief of
the last, as many Lyons passant guardant of the first for Ogstoun.
Above the Shield is placed a Helmet befitting his degree with a mant-
ling gules, the doubling argent. On a wreath of his Liveries is set for
Crest a Dexter hand issuing from a cloud and holding a sword erect, all
proper. In an escroll above the crest this motto, '' God for us."
and on a compartment below the shield are placed for supporters two
savages, wreathed about the head and middle with oak leaves, each
brandishing in the exterior hand a club resting on his shoulder, all proper.
Which Armorial Ensigns above blazoned Ave hereby Ratify Confirm
and Assign to the said John Douglass Esq, and the heirs male of his
body, as their proper Arms and Bearing in all time coming.
In Testimony whereof these presents are subscribed by James Home,
Esquire, our Depute, and the Great Seal of our office appended hereunto
at Edinburgh, the twenty-fifth day of February in the year one thousand
eight hundred.
