CHAPTER VI.
The Murrays of Cockpool.
Principal Authority — Scots Peerage.
THE Murrays of Cockpool are said to be descended from the Morays of
Bothwell, but there is no proof of this. They rose to be Earls of Annan-
dale ; and the cadets were the Murrays of Broughton in Kirkcudbright,
Drumcreiff, and Murraythwaite.
(391) SIR WILLIAM Murray. Married Isabel, daughter of Sir Thomas Randolph,
and sister of Thomas, Earl of Moray. They had issue : —
(a) Patrick Murray.
(*) William (No. 392).
(392) WILLIAM MURRAY. He was granted the lands of Cumlungan, in Annandale,
between 13 17 and 1332. The next was: —
(393) George Murray, father of: —
(394) Sir Adam Murray of Cockpool, who was succeeded by : —
(395) Patrick Murray, living 141 1, who had three sons : —
(«) Sir Thomas (No. 396).
(&) David Murray, died before 145 1, and had a son : —
(1) Ninian Murray.
(c) Patrick Murray.
(396) SIR THOMAS MURRAY, died before 1438, leaving: —
(a) Gavin Murray, died before 1438.
(b) Charles (No. 397).
(c) Lancelot Murray, living 142 1.
(d) Florence Murray, left descendants living at Drumstinchall,
Kirkcudbright,
(e) Herbert Murray.
(/) John (No. 424).
(397) Sir Charles Murray of Cockpool, died about 1472, having had issue : —
(a) Cuthbert (No. 398).
(b) Sir Adam (No. 420).
(c) Charles Murray.
