(379) Sir William Murray, fourth Baronet, mentioned June 1661 (Criminal
Trials). He died without surviving issue, and was succeeded by his
cousin (No. 381).
(380) James Murray of Outerston, fourth son of William (No. 376),
buried Lasswade 19th April 1701. Will recorded 26th August 1702
(Edinburgh). He married at Edinburgh, 23rd January 1673, Magdalen,
daughter and heiress of John Johnston of Polton, and had issue : —
(«) John Murray, served heir to his father 16th July 1702 ;
died s.p.
(b) Sir James (No. 381).
(c) Colonel William (No. 382).
(381) Sir James Murray, fifth Baronet of Hillhead, died s.p. 10th March
1769. He married Marion, daughter of James Nairn. His brother : —
(382) Colonel William Murray, married Anne, daughter of Hosea Schurmann,
and had a son : —
(383) Sir Robert Murray, sixth Baronet of Hillhead, died 1771. He was
served heir to his uncle (No. 381) 21st June 1769. He married, first, 22nd
June 1750, Janet Murray, daughter of Alexander, fourth Lord Elibank
(No. 359), who died 9th August 1759, leaving: —
(a) Sir James (No. 384).
He married, second, Susan, daughter of John Renton of Lamberton,
and had issue : —
(b) Sir John (No. 385).
\c) Sir William (No. 386).
(384) General Sir James Pulteney Murray, seventh Baronet, died s.p.
26th April 181 1. He married, 23rd July 1794, Henrietta Laura, only
daughter and heiress of Sir William Pulteney, Bt. (formerly Johnstone)
of Westerhall. She was created, 26th October 1803, COUNTESS OF Bath,
but died s.p. 14th July 1808. He was succeeded by his half brother : —
(385) Lieutenant-General Sir John Murray, eighth Baronet, died s.p.
15th October 1827. He married, 25th August 1807, Anne Cholmondeley,
daughter of Constantine, second Lord Mulgrave, who died 10th April
1848. He was succeeded by his brother: —
(386) Rev. Sir William Murray, ninth Baronet, died 14th May 1842. He
was served heir to his brother 19th February 1828; and married, 1809,
Esther Jane Gayton, who died 6th February 1875, leaving issue : —
(a) Sir James (No. 387).
\b) Sir Robert (No. 388).
(c) Arthur Murray, born May 1 8 16. Married Margaret, daughter
of Dr Wardrop.
(d) John Murray, born 17th November 1817 ; died 25th June
1879. He married, 14th August 1843, Caroline, daughter
of Joseph James Swaby, of Jamaica, and had : —
(1) John Murray.
(2) Jesse Murray.
(3) Charles Murray.
(4) William Murray.
(5) Arthur de Monte Murray.
