86 THE MURRAYS OF FALAHILL
(356) Sir Patrick Murray of Elibank, died 12th November 1649. He was
served heir to his father 7th August 162 1 ; and was M.P. for Haddington
1628-33, 1640-41. On 16th May 1628 he was created a BARONET, and
on 18th March 1643 he was created LORD ELIBANK. He married, first,
contract dated 21st August 1610, Margaret, daughter of Sir Alexander
Hamilton of Innerwick, and had : —
(a) John Murray, baptised 1st November 1612 ; died young.
He married, second, contract dated 24th January 1617, Elizabeth,
daughter of Sir James Dundas of Arniston, who died before 19th May
1627, having had issue : —
(b) Patrick (No. 357).
(c) William Murray of Spot, died 17th August 1684. Will
recorded 27th April 1687 (Edinburgh). He succeeded
to Langhermiston on the death of his cousin (No.
355) b, 1), and was appointed tutor to his nephew,
Patrick, third Lord Elibank, 5th July 1661. He
married, first, Isobel Douglas; and second, Margaret
Baillie, and was succeeded by his son : —
(1) Archibald Murray of Spot, served heir to his
father 24th November 1684 and 27th
October 1690.
HrtTlS recorded in Lyon Office, 1672-77. — Azure, a martlet
between three stars argent, all within a double tressure
flory-counter-fiory or; a bordure per pale of the first and
second. CREST: Ahorse argent, furnished gules. MOTTO :
" Virtute fideque." [Plate VI., fig. 12.]
He married, third, 16th January 1628, Helen, daughter of Bernard
Lindsay of Lochhill, and had : —
(d) Walter Murray of Ravilly, Co. Carlow, died 1695. He
married Jane Butler, daughter of Viscount Galmoy,
and had : —
(1) William Murray of Ravilly, died sp. 1696.
(2) Richard Murray of Ravilly, died 1761, leaving
a son : —
(a) Oliver Murray.
(e) George Murray of Pittencrieff, Fife, died about 1702. He
married, first, 1667, Margaret, daughter of Sir John
Moncreiffe, Bt. ; and second, at Edinburgh, 13th Feb-
ruary 1670, Elizabeth, daughter of Sir John Erskine of
Otterstoun, and by her had : —
(1) George Murray, baptised 2nd November 1678.
HriTlS recorded in Lyon Office, 1672-77. — Azure, a martlet
between tliree mullets argent within a double tressure flory-
counter-flory or, surrounded by a bordure embattled of the
second. CREST : A horse saliant argent, furnished gules.
MOTTO : "functa virtuti fides." [Plate VII., fig. I.]
He married, fourth, 1 ith December 1636, Agnes, daughter of Thomas
Nicolson of Cockburnspath, who died 16th November 1637, leaving a
son : —
(/) Thomas Murray, born 12th November 1637. Served heir
to his mother 7th December 1637. Died before 15th
February 1659.
