84 THE MURRAYS OF FALAHILL
(350) Alexander Murray of Cringletie, died September 1755. He was M.P.
for Peeblesshire 1712-13, 1715-22, 1741-47; and married Catherine,
daughter of Sir Robert Stewart, of Tillicoultry, and had issue : —
(a) Alexander (No. 351).
(b) Robert Murray, died unmarried.
(c) John Murray of Stewartoun, died unmarried January 1766.
(d) Archibald Murray.
(e) James Murray.
(/) Richard Murray.
(351) Lieutenant-Colonel Alexander Murray of Cringletie, died March
1762. Will recorded 7th May 1763 (Edinburgh). He distinguished
himself with Wolfe at Quebec 1759, and was served heir to his father
9th February 1757. In 1749 he married Marion, daughter of Sir James
Stewart of Goodtrees, and had : —
(a) Major Alexander Murray of Cringletie, died s.p. 1822. He
was served heir to his father 25th November 1763, and
to his uncle, John, 5th August 1768.
(b) James Wolfe (No. 352).
(352) James Wolfe Murray of Cringletie, bom 5th January 1759; died 29th
May 1836. He was named after the hero of Quebec, and became a Lord
of Session as Lord Cringletie. He married, 7th April 1807, Isabella,
daughter of J. C. E. S. Strange, who died 25th December 1847. They
had issue : —
(a) James (No. 353).
(b) Colonel Alexander Murray, died s.p. 24th December 1865.
Married, 1853, Eugenia, daughter of Colonel Curtis.
(c) Major-General Thomas Andrew Lumsden Murray, born 1st
March 1825 ; died 3rd October 1893. He married,
1849, Elizabeth, daughter of John Charlton Fisher,
LL.D., Canada, who died 10th November 1906, having
had:—
(1) Thomas Murray, died s.p.
(2) Dennistoun Murray, died s.p.
(d) Philip Charles Murray, died 1842.
(353) James Wolfe Murray of Cringletie, born nth May 1814; died 20th
June 1890. He was served heir to his father 26th June 1837; an ^
married, first, 25th March 1852, Elizabeth, daughter of John Whyte
Melville of Bennochie and Strathkinness, who died 4th October 1857,
leaving : —
(a) Sir James (No. 354).
(b) Francis DArcy Osborne Wolfe Murray, born 10th April
1854. Married, 21st September 1881, Frances, daughter
of Major-General Henry R. Morgan, and has : —
(1) Harold Osborne Wolfe Murray, born 1884.
(c) Sidney George Wolfe Murray, born 2nd March 1855 ;
died s.p. 1889.
(d) Philip Charles Knightley Wolfe Murray of Howbury Hall,
Bedford, born 20th April 1856. Married, 3rd January
1886, Ellie, daughter of R. H. de Winton of Graftonbury,
and has : —
(1) Alexander Robert Wolfe Murray, born 1889.
(2) Philip George Wolfe Murray, born 1891.
