5o THE MURRAYS OF ATHOLL
(205) Sir Alexander Hepburn Murray, fifth Baronet of Balmanno,
born 4th December 1754. Killed in American War 1774 s.p. He was
served heir to his grand-uncle, Anthony Murray of Balmanno (No. 201, e),
24th August 1768. His sister, Mary, was served heir to him 3rd Dec-
ember 1776, and married Colonel John Belsches.
Earl of Dysart.
Principal Authority — Scots Peerage.
(206) Rev. William Murray, second son of Patrick (No. 198), died October 1616.
He was Parson of Dysart, Fife, and married Margaret, daughter of
David Murray of Lochmiln, and had : —
(207) William Murray, died about 1651. He was whipping boy to King
Charles I., and on 3rd August 1643 he was created Earl OF DYSART
and Lord of Huntingtower. He married Katherine, daughter of Colonel
Norman Bruce, and was succeeded by his eldest daughter : —
(a) Elizabeth, Countess of Dysart, died 1698, ancestress of the
present Earl.
Hnil6 of Countess Elizabeth on Seal, 1679 (she was then
the wife of John, Duke of Lauderdale). — Impaled, dexter,
a lion rampant couped of his joints within a Royal tressure
(Maitland of Lauderdale) ; sinister, three stars with an
imperial crown at /ess point, — all within a Royal tressure
(Murray) {ex inf. W. R. Macdonald).
Hnil6 in Nisbet's Heraldry, 1722. — Azure, an imperial crown proper between
three stars argent within a double tressure flory-counter-flory or. CREST :
A mermaid holditig in her dexter hand a mirror, and her sinister a comb
proper. SUPPORTERS : Two lions gules, collared azure, each collar charged
with three stars argent. MOTTO : " Tout prest." [Plate IV., fig. 15.]
Viscountess Bayning.

(208) THOMAS MURRAY, third son of Patrick (No. 198), died 9th April 1623. He was
served heir to his brother, Patrick, 10th October 1662. He married Jane,
daughter of George Drummond of Blair. Her Will recorded 23rd Sep-
tember 1647. They had issue : —
(a) Henry (No. 209).
(b) Charles Murray, living 1647.
(c) John Murray, died s.p. before 1643.
(d) James Murray, died s.p. before 1643.
(e) William Murray, baptised 17th July 1617. Living 1647.
(209) Henry Murray. Will proved 24th September 1672. He married 26th
November 1635, Anne, daughter of Paul, first Viscount Bayning of
