136 THE HAMILTONS OF INNERWICK
as Lord Redhouse, to which office he was appointed on his father's
demission, 1608. He married Jean, daughter and heiress of John Laing
of Redhouse, and had : —
(a) John (No. 621).
(b) Andrew Hamilton, living 1637.
(c) Patrick Hamilton, died c. 1637.
(621) Sir John Hamilton of Redhouse. Will recorded nth December 1640
(Edinburgh). He was served heir to his father 16th October 1634. He
married Helen, daughter of Sir Robert Richardson, Bt. of Pencaitland.
She died 1688, leaving: —
(622) Captain Thomas Hamilton of Redhouse, buried in Greyfriars, Edin-
burgh, 15th October 1688. He was served heir to his father 26th August
1662. He married Agnes Birnie, who afterwards, in 1694, married, at
Edinburgh, Andrew Rule. They had issue : —
(a) James (No. 623).
(b) Thomas Hamilton.
(c) Captain George Hamilton, living 1687.
(d) Andrew Hamilton.
(623) Captain James Hamilton of Redhouse. Served heir to his father 13th
August 1706. He died before 1718, leaving a son : —
(624) Colonel George Hamilton of Redhouse. Served heir to his father and
grandfather 27th March 17 18, and to his great -grandmother, Helen
Richardson of Redhouse, 18th November 1720. For taking part in the
Rising of 1745 he was executed, and his estates confiscated.
Hntl0 recorded in Lyon Office, 1694. — Gules, on a chevron between three
cinquefoils ermine a buckle azure, all within a bordure, embattled or,
charged with eight thistles vert flowered of the first. [Plate VIII., fig. 4.]
CREST : Two dexter hands issuing out of clouds, joined fessways, and hold-
ing two branches of laurel disposed in orle proper. MOTTO : "Perstando
prczsto."
Little Preston.
Authority — Fraser's Earls of Haddington.
(625) Sir Patrick Hamilton of Little Preston, fourth son of Thomas
Hamilton (No. 594). Will recorded 2nd March 1663 (Edinburgh).
He married Elizabeth, daughter of Ninian Macmorran, of Edinburgh,
and had : —
(626) Sir Patrick Hamilton of Little Preston. Served heir to his father
20th February 1662 in Little Preston, and on 10th April 1678 in Braid.
He married Elizabeth Macgill, daughter of James, first Viscount Oxfurd,
and had : —
(a) James Hamilton, living 7th September 1698.
\b) Thomas (No. 627).
Hntl8 recorded in Lyon Office, 1673. — Gules, on a chevron between three
cinquefoils argent as many buckles azure. [Plate VIII., fig. 5.] CREST:
A greyhound's head couped proper, collared gules, garnished or. MOTTO :
"Fidele."
