CHAPTER IX.
SECTION A.
The Hamiltons of Bathgate.
Authority — House of Hamilton.
(434) Sir William Hamilton, second son of David Hamilton of Cadzow (No. 4).
He was granted the lands of Bathgate, Linlithgow, by his mother, 24th
March 1407. He was followed by : —
(435) Alexander Hamilton of Bathgate, living 15th October 1479. The next
was : —
(436) William Hamilton of Bathgate, who was succeeded by his son : —
(437) Alexander Hamilton of Bathgate, who had a charter, in which his
father is mentioned, 17th June 1508. He had: —
(a) Peter (No. 438).
(b) William Hamilton, who married Margaret Herriot. They
had a grant of the Muir lands of Bathgate 26th February
IS49.
(438) Peter Hamilton of Bathgate. Had a charter 26th February 1549. He
married Janet Hamilton, and had : —
(439) Robert Hamilton of Bathgate. Will recorded 27th February 1567-68
(Edinburgh). He had a charter 27th May 1557, and married Margaret
Witherspoon, and had : —
(a) Robert (No. 440).
(3) William Hamilton, living 1626.
(c) James Hamilton. Received lands of Harper Rig in 1602.
(440) Robert Hamilton of Bathgate. Had a charter 18th February 1600.
He married, first, Elizabeth Ross, living 1600 ; and, second, Elizabeth,
daughter of Sir Alexander Hamilton of Innerwick, living 1620. He had
a son : —
(441) Thomas Hamilton of Bathgate, Commissioner of Supply for Linlithgow,
1661.
