88 THE HAMILTONS OF TORRANCE
Torrance.
Authorities — House of Hamilton and Burke's Landed Gentry.
(357) Thomas Hamilton, said to be second son of Walter Hamilton (No. 241).
He is supposed to have married the heiress of Torrance, and had
issue : —
(a) John (No. 358).
(b) Michael Hamilton of Lochhouse, living 1489.
{c) James (No. 409).
(358) John Hamilton of Torrance, a witness 23rd May 1463 {Hamilton MSS.).
Married Janet Parklie of that Ilk, and had : —
(359) James Hamilton of Torrance. Married a daughter of Walter Maxwell
of Aikenhead, and had : —
(a) James (No. 360).
{b) John Hamilton of Shawtoun. Mentioned 1577 {Criminal
Trials),
{c) George Hamilton.
{d) Allan Hamilton (No. 403).
(360) James Hamilton of Torrance, living 1545. Married Christian Stewart of
Minto, and had : — ■

(361) Robert Hamilton of Torrance, a witness 29th March 1570 {Hamilton
MSS.). He married Miss Goodman of Glaister, and had : —
{a) Matthew (No. 362).
{b) James (No. 374).
(362) Matthew Hamilton of Torrance. Married a daughter of Muirhead of
Lauchope, and had : —
{a) James (No. 363).
(b) Alexander Hamilton.
{c) Archibald Hamilton.
He is also said to have had another son : —
{d) Andrew Hamilton, from whom descended the Hamiltons of
Westburn. He was probably father of: —
(1) Gabriel Hamilton of Westburn, Cambuslang,
whose Will was recorded 7th July 1670
and 1st June 167 1 (Glasgow). He was
probably grandfather of another Gabriel
Hamilton of Westburn, whose son, Captain
Gabriel, was served heir to him 7th April
1762. This last Gabriel died October 1762,
and his brother, John, was served heir to
him 14th September 1763. This John was
possibly father of Gabriel Hamilton of
Westburn, whose Will was recorded 13th
September 1782 (Glasgow).
