(344) James Hamilton, fifth son of Robert Hamilton (No. 339), born 25th Sep-
tember 1700; died November 1769. He married, first, 10th November
1736, Helen, daughter of Andrew Baillie of Parbroath, and had : —
id) John Hamilton, born 9th November 1738 ; died s.p.m. before
1 6th October 1772.
(b) Robert Hamilton, born 14th February 1740; died s.p.m.
before 16th October 1772.
(c) Andrew Hamilton, born 30th November 1743; died 20th
May 1744.
id) James (No. 345).
(/) William Hamilton, born June 1748; died 15th December
1802. He married Elizabeth, daughter of Archibald
Nisbet of Carfin, and had issue.
He married, second, Elizabeth, daughter of William Cunningham of
Brownhill.
(345) James Hamilton, second of Stevenston, born 10th June 1745. He was
served heir to his father 16th October 1772. In 1783 he sold Stevenston.
He married Mary, daughter of Archibald Nisbet of Carfin. She survived
her husband, and died 30th March 1812, having had : —
(«) Captain James Hamilton, died s.p. before his mother.
(b) Archibald (No. 346).
ic) Captain Francis Hamilton, died 10th December 1869. He
was twice married, and left issue.
(346) Archibald Hamilton, born 19th September 1774; died 23rd February
1823. He married May Clarke, and had twin sons, born 29th August
1822 : —
id) James (No. 347).
(b) Archibald Hamilton, died 30th September 1839.
(347) JAMES, NINTH LORD BELHAVEN, died 6th September 1893. On 2nd August
1875 the House of Lords decided that he had made out his claim to the
title. He married, 30th October 1877, Georgina, daughter of Sir John
Watson, Bt. of Earnock and Neilsland, and had seven daughters.

(348) Rev. Anthony Hamilton, D.D., third son of Alexander Hamilton,
eleventh son of William Hamilton (No. 338), born 5th May 1739; died
4th October 18 12. He was Archdeacon of Colchester. He married,
12th February 1767, Anne, daughter of Richard Terrick, Bishop of
London, and had : —
id) William Richard (No. 349).
