of Bellergan Park, Co. Louth, and had issue.
(i) General Christopher Hamilton, died 1842. Married, 1817,
Sarah Handcock, sister of Richard, Lord Castlemaine,
and had issue.
He married, third, Jane Candlir. By his three wives he had thirty-
six children.
(278) Hans Hamilton, M.P., died December 1S22. He married, first, Sarah,
daughter of Joshua Lynam, of Dublin, and had two daughters. He
married, second, Anne, daughter of Hugh Henry Mitchell, of Dublin,
and had : —
(279) James Hans Hamilton of Abbotstown or Sheephill and Holm-
PATRICK, M.P., born February 1810; died 29th June 1863. He married,
1833, Caroline, daughter of John F. Trant of Dovea, Tipperary. She
died March 1845, leaving: —
(a) Hans James Hamilton, born 21st September 1835 ; died
8th November 1862.
(b) Ion (No. 280).
(280) Ion Trant Hamilton, born 14th July 1839; died 6th March 1898. He
was created Baron HOLMPATRICK 27th July 1897. He married, 6th
September 1877, Victoria, daughter of General Lord Charles Wellesley,
and had : —
(281) Hans Wellesley, second Lord Holmpatrick, born 8th August 1886.
HriTlS. — Gules, a mullet argent between three cinquefoils pierced ermine, on a
chief or a heart of the first. [Plate IV., fig. 5.] Crest : A demi antelope
argent, attired or, holding between the fore paws a human heart, and charged
on the shoulder with a mullet, both gules. SUPPORTERS : Dexter, An
antelope argent, attired or ; Sinister, A lion gules, each having pendant from
a collar, flory-counter-flory or, a shield ermine charged with a heart gules.

(2S2) Henry Hamilton of Ballymacoll, Co. Meath, second son of James
Hamilton (No. 277), born 16th July 1760; died November 1844. He
married Mary, daughter of John Wetherall, of Dublin, and had : —

(e) Robert Hamilton, died unmarried.
(283) James John Hamilton of Ballymacoll, born 1788; died 1842. Married,
first, Margaret, daughter of Thomas Carter of Castle Martin, and had : —
(a) Captain Henry Hamilton of Ballymacoll, born 181 1 ; died
sp. 19th August 1861. He married, 1850, Helen,
daughter of Colonel Dickson.
