(209) George Hamilton of Kilbrackmonth. He was served heir to his grand-
mother, Margaret Dishington, 20th August 1647. He married Jean,
daughter of John Napier, the inventor of logarithms, but died s.p.
HmtS recorded in Lyon Office, 1672-77. — 1 and 4. Gules, three cinquefoils
argetit. 2 and 3. Argent, on a bend sable three escallops or (Dishington).
[Plate III., fig. 14.] CREST: A hand pulling up a cinquef oil proper.
Motto : "Et neglecta virescit."
He was succeeded by his nephew : —
(210) Robert Hamilton of Kilbrackmonth, died 2nd April 1720. His Will
recorded 27th April and 24th December 1720 (St. Andrews). On nth
June 1687 he was served heir to his uncle, Frederick Hamilton of Lingo.
He married, 1662, Margaret, daughter of Sir John Carstares of Kil-
conquhar, and had : —
(211) Philip Hamilton of Kilbrackmonth. He was served heir to his father
16th May and 2nd November 1738. The House of Hamilton says he
married Helen, daughter of John Gedde of St. Nicolas, and widow of
James Lentron. According to Douglas' Baronage he married Margaret,
daughter of Sir James Wemyss of Bogie, and widow of John Bethune of
Blebo. He had a son : —
(212) Robert Hamilton of Kilbrackmonth, died 9th November 1769.
Ferguslee.
Authority — House of Hamilton.
(213) JOHN HAMILTON, third son of John Hamilton (No. 177). He obtained the
lands of Ferguslee in 1543, and had a son : —
(214) ARCHIBALD HAMILTON, "son to umquhile John Hamilton of Ferguslee,"
charged to appear at Stirling 4th June 1579 {Great Seal). The next on
record is : —
(215) Allan Hamilton of Ferguslee, who, with a sister, is mentioned in the
Commissary Records of Glasgow.
(216) Robert Hamilton of Ferguslee is mentioned in same Records 25th
August 1588.
(217) John Hamilton of Ferguslee had a daughter, Margaret, married to John
Wallace of Kelly in 1630.
(218) John Hamilton of Barr had a grant of Ferguslee 31st January 1662.
(219) William Hamilton had charter of Ferguslee 6th August 1678.
Bothwellhaugh.
Authority — House of Hamilton.
(220) David Hamilton of Bothwellhaugh, fifth son of John Hamilton (No.
177). He married Christian Shaw. Her Will recorded 2nd March 1604
(Edinburgh). In 1558 he was charged with abiding from the Raid of
Lauder; and on 28th February 1570-71 his " widow " was charged with
