Home, whose Will was recorded 8th July 1619 (Edinburgh). By her he
had two sons : —
(a) James (No. 170).
(b) John (No. 171).
(170) James Hamilton of Elrick was retoured to his father 1st September 1630.
He died s.p., and was succeeded by his brother : —
(171) Rev. John Hamilton, born 1618; died 1674. He was retoured heir to his
brother 15th June 1632. He was appointed to Carmichael parish 16th
May 1650; deprived by Act of Parliament nth June 1662 (Scott's Fasti).
He married Helen Ferguson of Caitlock, in Galloway, and had : —
(172) Rev. John Hamilton, D.D., born c. 1670; died April 1741. He was
appointed to Strathavon 13th December 1698, and to College Church,
Glasgow, October 17 12 (Scott's Fasti). He married Margaret, daughter
of William Ballantine of Castlehill, Ayrshire, and had : —
(173) Rev. John Hamilton, D.D., born 1713 ; died 3rd February 1780. Appointed
to the High Church, Glasgow, 16th March 1749. He married, 24th
February 1752, Mary, daughter of John Bogle of Hamilton Farm. She
died 26th July 1808, leaving four sons : —
(a) John Hamilton of Northpark, born 1754; died 1829. Three
times Provost of Glasgow. Married Helen, daughter of
Archibald Bogle, of Glasgow, and had : —
(1) John Hamilton of Northpark, died s.p.
(2) Archibald Hamilton of Northpark. Married
Margaret, daughter of William Bogle, of
Glasgow, and had : —
(a) John Hamilton, died s.p. 1848.
(b) George William Hamilton, born
1820; died s.p.m. 1901.
(3) George William Hamilton.
(4) Robert Hamilton.
(5) William Hamilton, Bailie of Glasgow.

(c) Patrick Hamilton, died unmarried.
(d) William Hamilton, died unmarried.
(174) George Hamilton, of Glasgow, bom 1756; died 1796. Married, October
1792, Margaret, daughter of George Bogle, of Glasgow (Scots Magazine).
They had a son : —
(a) John George Hamilton, born 1794; died 1866. Married
Christina Cameron, daughter of Henry Monteith, of
Carstairs, M.P., and had : —
(1) Christian (No. 175).
(175) Lieutenant-Colonel Christian Monteith Hamilton, 92ND High-
landers, born 1825; died 1885. He married, 1852, Maria Corinna,
daughter of John, third Viscount Gort, who died 1856, leaving: —
(a) General Sir Ian Standish Monteith Hamilton, K.C.B., male
representative of Westport, born 1853. Married, 1886,
Jean, daughter of Sir John Muir, Bt.
(b) Vereker Monteith Hamilton, born 1856. Married, 1886,
Lilian, daughter of Edwin Newcome Swainson, and
has : —
(1) Ian Bogle Monteith Hamilton.
