Newton.
Authority — House of Hamilton.
(152) JAMES HAMILTON, fourth son of Sir Robert Hamilton (No. 140), died 1655.
He owned Newton, in parish of Cambuslang, Lanark. He married, first,
Elizabeth, daughter of" Gabriel Hamilton of Westburn, and had two
daughters. He married, second, Margaret, daughter of Robert Mont-
gomery of Giffen and Macbie Hill. Her Will recorded 17th October
1676 (Glasgow). He had issue : —
(a) James (No. 153).
\V) Thomas (No. 154).
(153) James Hamilton of Newton, died unmarried. His Will recorded 27th
May and 4th July 1740 (Glasgow). He was succeeded by his brother: —
(154) Thomas Hamilton of Newton. His Will recorded 9th July 1745 (Glasgow).
He married Miss Cleland, who died 1733, leaving: —
(a) James (No. 155).
(6) John (No. 157).
(155) James Hamilton of Newton, died July 175 1. Will recorded 21st May
1752 and 22nd April 1755 (Glasgow). He married, first, Annabella,
daughter of Sir Robert Pollock, Bt. Her Will recorded 22nd January
and 5th July 1745 (Glasgow). By her he had : —
(a) James (No. 156).
He married, second, Miss Buchanan of Ross and Drummakill, and
had:—
(b) Thomas Hamilton. Will recorded 19th March 1768
(Glasgow).
(156) James Hamilton of Newton, died s.p. August 1769. He was served heir to
his father and also to his brother, Thomas, 27th January 1768. He was
succeeded by his uncle : —
(157) John Hamilton of Newton, second son of Thomas Hamilton (No. 154).
He died s.p. 1775. Will recorded 20th March 1776 (Glasgow). He was
served heir to his nephew, James (No. 156), 16th April 1770, and was
succeeded by his sisters.

(158) John Hamilton of Cubardy, Aberdeen, third son of Andrew Hamilton
(No. 134), was father of: —

(160) John Hamilton of Cubardy, who had a charter of the lands of Cubardy to
himself and his son, 13th November 1668. He was succeeded by his
