42 THE HAMILTONS OF SILVERTONHILL
March 1547-48 (Glasgow). He married Catherine, daughter of John
Hamilton of Newton, and had : —
(a) Sir Andrew (No. 139).
(b) John Hamilton, living 1570.
(139) Sir Andrew Hamilton of Goslington, died 1592. He was attainted
after the battle of Langside, but restored 1572. He left three sons: —
(«) Sir Robert (No. 140).
(b) James Hamilton of Tweediesyde.
(c) Andrew Hamilton.
(140) Sir Robert Hamilton of Goslington, died 1642. He was served heir
to his father 9th April 1608 ; to his grandmother's father, John Hamilton
of Newton, 16th July 1608. His Will recorded 9th March 1642 and
28th December 1657 (Glasgow). He married Elizabeth, daughter and
heiress of Sir William Baillie of Provan, Lord President of the Court of
Session. Her Will recorded 8th September 1624 (Glasgow). They had
issue :—
(«) Francis Hamilton, died v.p.
\b) Edward (No. 141).
(c) Robert Hamilton.
(d) James (No. 152).
(e) William Hamilton.
(141) Edward Hamilton of Balgray, and later of Silvertonhill. His Will
recorded 12th August 1657 (Glasgow). He married Marion or Margaret,
daughter of James Mure of Caldwell, and had : —
(a) Sir Robert (No. 142).
(J>) John Hamilton.
(142) Sir Robert Hamilton, Baronet of Silvertonhill. He was created
a Baronet of Nova Scotia between 1642 and 1646, but the patent is not
recorded. He was served heir to his uncle, William Hamilton (No. 140, e),
nth December 1655, and to his father 18th October 1666. He sold the
estate of Provan. He married Anne Hamilton, daughter of John, first
Lord Belhaven (No. in). He had two sons : —
(a) Sir Robert (No. 143).
(b) Thomas Hamilton, died s.p. in France.
He had also a daughter : —
(c) Margaret Hamilton, married to John Hamilton of Biel, who
succeeded as second Lord Belhaven (No. 329).
(143) Sir Robert Hamilton, second Baronet, died 1708. His Will recorded
24th March 1709 (Argyll). He married, first, in Holland, Aurelia
Katharine van Hettingen, of Friesland, and had : —
(a) James Hamilton, killed in action v.p.
\b) John (No. 144).
\c) William Hamilton, in Holland. Married a Miss Athinscuby,
and had issue : —
(1) Lieut-Colonel John Hamilton, "j j n jw c ij
(2) Captain Robert Hamilton. \ serv ; ce
(3) Major William Hamilton. J
(d) George Hamilton.
He married, second, Isabel, daughter of John Hamilton of Boggs,
and had by her a daughter.
(144) Sir John Hamilton, third Baronet, died 1748. He married, first, Mary
Levvers, and had : —
