Johu Begg, second son of John Begg and Isabella Burns,
was born at Maucliline on the 27th April 1796. Bred to a
mechanical profession, he settled at Kilmarnock, where he died
11th October 1867. He married 14th November 1817 Agnes
Wilson (born 1795, died 1851), by whom he had five sons
and three daughters. John, the eldest son, born 21st March
1821, holds a farm at Pudman Creek, New South Wales;
twice married, he has four sons, John, Andrew, Kobert, and
Neil ; and a daughter, Janet.
Robert Burns Begg, second son of John Begg and Agnes
Wilson, was born 9th May 1823 ; he married in 1846
Winefred, with issue. Walter Wilson, third son, born 16th
July 1828, died in infancy ; William, fourth son, born 1st April
1833, married in 1852, and has three sons and five daughters ;
James, fifth son, born 19th September 1836, died unmarried
31st May 1874.
Marion Adams Begg, eldest daughter of John Begg and
Agnes Wilson, was born 17th August 1818; she married
Richard Johnstone, by whom she had a son and two
daughters ; she died 7th February 1871. Jane Breckenridge
Begg, second daughter, born 8th March 1826, married David
Campbell, with issue ; she and her husband reside at Largs,
Ayrshire. Isabella Burns Begg, third daughter, born 27th
April 1830, married George Preston ; she died 3d November
1856, leaving a son and daughter.
Robert Burns Begg, third son of Johu Begg and Isabella
Burns, was born in the parish of Dundonald, Ayrshire, and
was educated at Wallace Hall Academy, Dumfriesshire. In
18.18 he was appointed schoolmaster at Bent, on the estate of
Blackwood; he afterwards assisted in the parish school of
Dalmeny, and in 1822 was elected parish schoolmaster of
